This is the preparatory stage for oilseeds before they enter the actual edible oil extraction process. Its core objectives are cleaning, shelling, crushing, softening, flaking, and steaming to disrupt the oilseed cell structure and adjust the mechanical properties and moisture content of the flaked material, preparing it for subsequent oil extraction.
1) Cleaning Screens: These screens remove impurities such as stones, dust, metal fragments, and straw from the oilseeds. These typically include vibrating screens, rotary screens, and magnetic separators.
2) Dehulling/Shelling Machines and Separating Equipment: For oilseeds with shells, hulling is required to enhance oil yield and quality. This includes impact sheller blade-type sheller, and equipment that separates the shell from the kernel using air separation and screening.
3) Crusher: Crushes large oilseeds into small particles suitable for flaking.

3) Decolorization: Removal of pigments from the oil by adsorption. The main equipment is a decolorization tower and a filter (such as a leaf filter).
4) Deodorization: Removal of odorous substances and free fatty acids from the oil by distillation under high temperature and high vacuum.
